MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Charles Shockey Porterfield, 72, of Martinsburg, died Friday, Dec. 5, 2008, at City Hospital in Martinsburg.

Born May 29, 1936, in Berkeley County, W.Va., he was the son of the late J. Milton Porterfield Jr. and Dorothy Shockey Porterfield.

He was a 1954 graduate of Hedgesville (W.Va.) High School, attended West Virginia University and graduated from Capitol Radio Engineering Institute in Washington, D.C., with an electronics engineering degree.

He was employed by Knouse Foods in Orrtanna, Pa., as the plant maintenance supervisor.

He was a member of St. Leo Catholic Church.

He was a member of the Martinsburg Loyal Order of Moose.

He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Nora Sowers Porterfield; two daughters, Rebecca J. Rose and Kelly M. Coe, both of Martinsburg; two sons, Charles D. Porterfield of Martinsburg and Marc W. Porterfield of Virginia Beach, Va.; two brothers, David W. Porterfield of Ocala, Fla. and John M. Porterfield III of Inwood, W.Va.; eight grandchildren; nieces; nephews; and cousins.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday at 10 a.m. at St. Leo Catholic Church. The Rev. Brian Shoda will be celebrant. Burial prayers will be said in Rosedale Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Monday from 6 to 9 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home in Martinsburg, where a vigil service will be held.
