CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Thelma Mae Carey, 86, of 58 Conner Ave., died Thursday, Dec. 4, 2008, at Harrisburg (Pa.) Hospital.

Born Dec. 27, 1921, in Pittsburgh, she was the daughter of the late Raymond Leroy Herdman and Olive Gertrude Peppler Herdman.

She graduated from Scotland School for Veterans Children.

She was a homemaker.

She was a member of Open Door Church, where she sang in the choir.

She was a member of the Jolly 60s and sang with the Camp Joy-El Corral.

She is survived by her husband, James F. Carey, whom she married March 7, 1941; two daughters, Darlene Young and Loretta Myers, both of Chambersburg; one son, James Carey Jr. of Chambersburg; one sister, Blanche Carey of Chambersburg; two brothers, Sonny Herdman and Gene Herdman, both of Pittsburgh; grandchildren; great-grandchildren; and great-great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Open Door Church in Chambersburg. The Rev. Mike Sanders will officiate.

Burial will be private.
