CHARLES TOWN, W.Va. - Carolyn Mae Boyce, Ph.D., 60, of Tuscawilla Hills, died Wednesday, Dec. 3, 2008, at the University of Virginia Health Systems in Charlottesville, Va.

Born July 9, 1948, in Baltimore, she was the daughter of the late Peter E. Boyce and Henrietta Wilson Boyce.

She was a graduate of the University of Delaware and earned her Ph.D. from Cornell University.

She was a senior social science analyst with GAO in Washington, D.C., as a survey designer.

She was the local pastor at Mount Carmel and Bethel United Methodist Church in Boonsboro. She was a guest pastor at Asbury United Methodist Church in Charles Town, where she was a member of the Missions Board.

She taught at Rutgers University, was a member of the Jefferson Democratic Women's Association and served on the Board of Directors for Relay for Life.

She is survived by her husband, Jim D. Santos; one daughter, Andrea Santos Boyce of Charles Town; one son, Jonathan Santos Boyce of Carmel, Ind.; two sisters, Susan Butts of Chesapeake, Va., and Jeanne Lee of Philadelphia; and three brothers, Donald Boyce of Groton, N.Y., Peter Boyce of Florida and Albert Boyce of Baltimore.

A Celebration of Life service will be Monday at 2 p.m. at Asbury United Methodist Church in Charles Town. The Rev. Richard Kroll will officiate.

Burial will be private.

There will be no visitation.

Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, Jefferson County Relay for Life, c/o Patricia Ott, 145 Donald Drive, Charles Town, WV 25414.

Arrangements are by Melvin T. Strider Colonial Funeral Home in Charles Town.
