WESTMINSTER, Md. - Bernard "Ben" Kasper, 86, of Westminster and formerly of Shippensburg, Pa., died Thursday, Dec. 4, 2008, at Longview Nursing Home in Manchester, Md.

Born June 24, 1922, in Erie, Pa., he was the son of the late Frank and Stella Kasper.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Isaphine Bowmaster Kasper, in 2007. They were married June 17, 1950.

He was a graduate of Erie Technical High School.

He owned and operated the B. Kasper Beer Distributor in Shippensburg for more than 36 years.

He served in the U.S. Merchant Marines during World War II.

He was a member of the Shippensburg Lions Club, the former Shippensburg Coin Club, Durff-Kuhn VFW Post 6168 and Oscar M. Hykes American Legion Post 223.

He is survived by one daughter, Janet Champness of Westminster; one son, Robert J. Kasper of Camp Hill, Pa.; and two granddaughters, Alicia M. Kasper and Emily L. Kasper, both of Camp Hill.

Services will be Monday at 1 p.m. at Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home in Chambersburg. Pastor Jake Butler will officiate. Charles Nitterhouse VFW Post 1599 Honor Guard will conduct military honors at the funeral home directly following the service. Burial will follow in Spring Hill Cemetery, Shippensburg.

The family will receive friends Sunday from 4 to 6 p.m. and Monday from noon to 1 p.m. at the funeral home.
