Stage is set for talent to make real killing at Spikefest

In its third year, the All-Star Spikefest keeps getting bigger and better.

The Tri-State area's premier volleyball showcase has a new home - the Gael Center at St. Maria Goretti - and Spikefest chairman Dr. Chip Zimmer expects another great night of action tonight.

"I think this is going to be better than the last one," Zimmer said. "It's pretty well-established now and we're getting great response from the coaches and the families as well. It looks like it's going to be a great showcase again."

The evening will begin with the Washington County Eighth Grade All-Star Game at 6, followed by the Tri-State High School Seniors match at 7:30.

As was the case last year, some players who were teammates during the season will be adversaries tonight. For example, Musselman - which won the West Virginia Class AAA state title - has two players on both the Antietam and Potomac teams.

"It creates a different twist than most All-Star games do," Zimmer said. "Most are geographically oriented and we did that the first year, but we changed that to generate this atmosphere and make the teams as even as possible.

"There's a real nice camaraderie involved. They spend a little bit of time together and the kids from Musselman meet the kids from Chambersburg and that's always fun."

Below are the rosters for the High School and Eight Grade matches:
