JEFFERSON, Md. - Andrew "Andy" Franklin Maught, 26, of Jefferson, Md., passed away on Thursday, Dec. 4, 2008.

Born Aug. 3, 1982, in Frederick, Md., he was the son of Charles and Daphne Maught of Jefferson.

Andy was a 2000 graduate of Brunswick (Md.) High School and a 2005 graduate of West Virginia State College. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, bowling and he was an avid Orioles and Steelers fan.

Andy's life was baseball. He had a great love and passion for the sport. He was on the last 12-year-old team from Brunswick to win the Little League state title in 1995. He played for Brunswick High School, where they won many regional and district championships. His senior year in high school, Andy was picked for an all-star team where he played at Camden Yards. He was awarded the Merriman Scholarship to play ball at West Virginia State. While playing at West Virginia State, he was named First Team All State. He then played for the Brunswick Orioles, where they won the 2004 World Series and he was named the MVP.

In addition to his loving parents, he is survived by a brother, Matthew Maught, and a sister, Danielle Maught, both of Jefferson; a paternal grandmother, Thelma Maught of Jefferson; a maternal grandmother, Regina Carey of Knoxville, Md.; and three uncles, Allen Carey, Randy Carey and Vince Carey.

He will also be remembered and missed by all of his friends and his baseball family.

He was preceded in death by his grandfathers, Andrew "Jack" Maught and Ralph Carey.

The family will receive friends at Stauffer Funeral Home, 1100 N. Maple Ave., Brunswick, Monday, Dec. 8, 2008, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral services will be on Tuesday, Dec. 9, at 11 a.m with Pastor Katrina L. Holland officiating.

Interment will be in St. Paul Lutheran Church Cemetery, Jefferson.

Memorial contributions may be sent to Brunswick Junior Baseball, c/o Gary Wigfield, 3548 Sigler Road, Jefferson, MD 21755, to be used for the lights at Merriman Stadium or to St. Paul Lutheran Church, 3864 Jefferson Pike, Jefferson, MD 21755.
