Dress Barn collecting for Toys for Tots

Dress Barn at Prime Outlets in Hagerstown is collecting new unwrapped toys for the Toys for Tots Drive. Those who bring in a new unwrapped toy will receive 15 percent off of one full-price item.

The toy drive will be held from Monday, Dec. 8, through Friday, Dec. 12.

Suns collecting food

The Hagerstown Suns is collecting food for the 23th annual Food Resources Inc. Holiday Food Drive.

A collection barrel is in the reception area of the front office at Municipal Stadium. Those who donate two or more food items will receive a limited edition Hagerstown Suns hat and a chance to win tickets to see the Suns play in 2009.

Bicentennial celebration planned

EMMITSBURG, Md. -Daughters and Sisters of Charity will celebrate Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton's feast day and open the bicentennial celebration of her legacy on Sunday, Jan. 4, 2009.

The Bicentennial Year opens with a Mass at 2:30 p.m. in the Basilica of the National Shrine of Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton, 333 S. Seton Ave. The Daughters will unveil a collage - a three-dimensional art display that commemorates 200 years of history, service and dedication that was begun in 1809 by a band of young women under the inspiration of Elizabeth Ann Seton.


Year-long events include retreats and pilgrimages for youth and adults, special Masses celebrated throughout the year, and a live re-enactment the weekend of July 31, Aug. 1 and 2.
