December 05, 2008

NEW MARKET, Md. -- One person was flown to a Baltimore hospital by Maryland State Police helicopter Friday morning after a two-vehicle accident on Md. 144 in Frederick County, according to the Frederick County Sheriff's Department.

At about 7:58 a.m., a westbound 1998 Oldsmobile van driven by Connie L. Thompson, 48, of Mt. Airy, Md., crossed the center line, causing an eastbound 2005 Dodge truck driven by Sharron K. Rooney, 59, of Mt. Airy to take evasive action to avoid a collision, police said.

Thompson then overcorrected and her vehicle struck the Dodge truck. The van overturned and came to rest in the westbound lane, police said.

Thompson was flown to Baltimore Shock Trauma for treatment of injuries, police said.

Police spokesperson Cpl. Jennifer Bailey said the accident was being investigated by Deputy 1st Class Tom Henry.
