Joseph Charles Long Moore, 81, of Hagerstown, passed away on Wednesday, Dec. 3, 2008, at the Washington County Hospital.

Born on Oct. 17, 1927, in Hagerstown, he was the son of the late Joseph Arthur Long Sr. and Anna Catherine Moore.

He was a U.S. Navy Veteran of World War II.

He retired as a carpenter for Jamison Door Co. in Hagerstown after 43 years.

He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Hagerstown.

Joseph was a member of the B.P.O. Elks Post No. 378 in Hagerstown; Dixon Troxell American Legion Post No. 211 in Funkstown; L.O.O. Moose Lodge 2435 in Funkstown; and the Washington County Sports Hall of Fame Inc.

Joseph is survived by his wife, Doris Jane (Brinton) Moore; a daughter, Christina A. Mentzer and husband Ed of Hagerstown; four brothers, Joseph A. Long Jr., Robert J. Long, Ronnie W. Long and Donnie L. Long; five sisters, Beverly B. La Pole, Connie J. Noll, Patt L. Crowther, Robin B. Mastiano and Peggy C. Renner; three granddaughters, Kellie A. Kofoet, Mary Catherine Cantner and Jennifer B. Barr; and five great-grandchildren, Timothy J. Kofoet II, Jacob E. Kofoet, Paige Cantner, Kourtney A. Kofoet and Madison A. Cantner.


Funeral services will be held at Rest Haven Funeral Chapel, 1601 Pennsylvania Ave., Hagerstown, at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 6, 2008, with the Rev. George A. Limmer officiating.

Interment will follow in Rest Haven Cemetery where military honors will be accorded by the U.S. Naval Command Honor Guard.

Friends will be received one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
