Union Council, Realtor collecting toys for effort

December 04, 2008

The annual Toys for Tots drive by the Marine Corps League Bulldog Detachment is getting a extra boost from the Central Maryland AFL-CIO Council and Long and Foster Real Estate Inc.

o Carpenters 340 have made space available for toy dropoffs at the 511 E. Franklin St. council office complex. A similar operation is at United Auto Workers 171 office at 18131 Maugans Ave.

Both are open for donations weekdays until 4 p.m. Pickups are possible by calling 301-739-6932.

o Realtor Debra Valentine said the Long and Foster office at 1100 Dual Highway will host a Toys for Tots party Wednesday, Dec. 10, from 2 to 7 p.m.

Charitable donations and new, unwrapped toys will be accepted during those hours as admittance to the party. "There will be refreshments, music and some Marines on hand to accept the toys and donations," Valentine said.

The real estate firm has supported Toys for Tots for many years as a community outreach, she said.

"Last year we needed trucks to haul all the toys away," Valentine said, noting she hopes this year's drive will have a similar response.
