Tribute to Buckles

The Williamsport Community Band's holiday concert will be Sunday, Dec. 21, at 2 p.m. at Williamsport High School. The concert is free and open to the public.

The band will present "The Doughboy Salute," written and composed to honor Frank Buckles, who was born in 1901 and served in World War I. The program features marching songs from WWI. Buckles plans to attend the concert. Other selections will include "The Nutcracker Suite," selections from "The Polar Express" and "The Night Before Christmas."

Holiday bazaar

Fountain Rock Elementary School, at 17145 Lappans Road, will hold a holiday bazaar Saturday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. to benefit the Angel Tree Project. Participants are asked to bring a new, unwrapped donation for Toys for Tots and be entered to win a prize basket; one entry for each toy donated.

Christmas parade

The Williamsport Town Christmas Parade will be Friday at 6:30 p.m. If your group would like to participate, call Town Hall at 301-223-7711.


There will be a trolley ride to the parade. Meet at Parkview Knolls to be picked up by the trolley between 5:30 and 5:45 p.m. The trolley will join in the parade, stop at Byron Memorial Park for the Christmas lighting and then return to Parkview Knolls.

There will be no parking on Conococheague Street from Salisbury to Potomac streets. Jewells & Jewells will be serving free coffee.

Decorating contest

The Williamsport Christmas decorating contest judging will be Sunday from 6 to 8 p.m. There are three divisions: commercial, best overall decorated house and yard and best decorated entry-way. Turn on your Christmas lights if you would like to be judged.

Way to go, Kody

Congratulations to Kody Munch, 11, who took home a 10-point buck on the first day of Maryland deer-hunting season. His dad, Henry, and granddad, Richard Munch, are very proud of Kody.

Memorial illumination

The Riverview Cemetery memorial illumination, with 1,500 luminarias, will be Dec.13 (rain date Dec. 14) starting at 6 p.m. The cemetery is at the end of West Church Street. If you would like to purchase a luminaria kit, they cost $5 each. For more information, call Osborne Funeral Home at 301-582-3311.

Children's program

Faith Christian Fellowship, at 16727 Lappans Road, Williamsport, will hold its annual children's Christmas program Sunday, Dec. 14, at 6 p.m. There will be music selections by the children followed by a play titled "The FCF Christmas Edition of Who Wants to be a Millionaire."

A love offering will be collected and given to The Salvation Army.

A birthday cake to celebrate Jesus' birthday will be served following the program.

Dinner theater

The Christmas Dinner Theater of Williamsport United Methodist Church will present "A Christmas in Cricket County" Sunday, Dec. 21 with performances at 2 and 6 p.m. The menu is country vittles. Tickets cost $5 per person and must be purchased in advance by calling 301-223-7040.


The Williamsport High School Sophisti'Cats will present its annual holiday dinner show titled "A Cool Yule" Saturday, Dec. 13, at WHS. A traditional turkey dinner will be served from 5:15 to 6:45 p.m. The show starts at 7:30 p.m. Reservations for the dinner and show can be made through Friday. Tickets cost $14 for adults, $12 for students and senior citizens and $6 for those 8 and younger for the dinner and show Tickets for the show only go on sale Monday. Cinnamon rolls

KinderHaven Day Care, at Zion Lutheran Church, is selling cinnamon rolls and carrot cakes from Hadley Farms. They cost $4 each and can be ordered in packages of 12, 24 or 36. They will be taking orders until Monday. To order, call Robin, Day Care director, at 301-223-9122.

Open house

Booklet/tickets are available for the Williamsport Ministerium Churches' Christmas open house on Sunday, Dec. 28 .

Tickets cost $5 per person, which includes admission to all participating churches and will benefit the restoration of Riverview Cemetery.

Tickets will be available at each church during the tour or in advance at churches and Town Hall during regular business hours or by calling Joan Knode at 301-223-7229.

Country churches will be open from 2 to 4 p.m. and town churches will be open from 4 to 6 p.m. Visitors will enjoy a reflection of how local churches celebrate this special time of the Christian year. Also plan to drive by the second Riverview Cemetery memorial illumination during this event.
