RANSON, W.Va. - Woodrow W. Jenkins, 81, of Ranson, died Tuesday, Dec. 2, 2008, at Shenandoah Health Village Center in Charles Town, W.Va.

Born Aug. 5, 1927, in Rappahannock County, Va., he was the son of the late Aubrey Jenkins and Velma Smith Jenkins.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Fay M. Fadeley Jenkins, in 2006.

He retired after 38 years from the former Powhatan Brass and Iron Works in Ranson.

He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He received the Army Occupation Medal and the World War II Victory Medal.


He was a Protestant.

He was a member of Jackson-Perks American Legion 71 and Memorial VFW Post 3522, both of Charles Town.

He is survived by one daughter, Teresa A. Forsyth of Ranson; three sisters, Neville Frye and Virginia Shewbridge, both of Charles Town, and Shirley Handy of Woodstock, Va.; one brother, Lewis B. Jenkins of Charles Town; two grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; nieces; and nephews.

He was preceded in death by three siblings.

Services will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at Melvin T. Strider Colonial Funeral Home, Charles Town. Dr. Henry Christie will officiate. Burial will be in Edge Hill Cemetery, Charles Town.

The family will receive friends Thursday from 10 to 11 a.m. at the funeral home.
