December 01, 2008

JUNE 24, 1946-NOV. 29, 2008

HEDGESVILLE, W.Va. - Charles Milton Lesher Jr., (Buck), age 62, of Hedgesville, W.Va., and formerly of Hagerstown, Md., passed away peacefully with his family by his side Saturday, Nov. 29, 2008, at City Hospital in Martinsburg, W.Va.

Born June 24, 1946, in Clear Spring, Md., Charles was the oldest son born to Charles Milton Lesher Sr. and Hilda June "Rubeck" Lesher, who have both passed.

Charles retired from Allegheny Power after 33 years of service. He had also been employed with many service stations, including Texaco, Shell and Checkers, all of Hagerstown.

Charles was an avid nature lover and caretaker of many animals and birds, but even with his large family, he always said his most unconditional love came from his baby girl cat, "Tigger Rose," and fat cat, "Tom."

Before his illness of pulmonary fibrosis, he enjoyed boating, fishing, skiing and metal detecting. He was a former member of the North American Rod and Gun Club and enjoyed skeet shooting.

Charles is survived by his first wife, Evelyn Louise "Summers" Lesher, and their children, Barbara Edwards, Staci Tabler, Kim Palmer and Shonda Edwards. His present wife, Kathy Jean "Durbin" Lesher, and their daughter, Rebecca Reiff, extended family included Tracy Ramos. He had been blessed with 13 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Charles was proudly raised with sisters Louise Bechtold, Audrey Coffelt, Janet Lapole, Carol Seilhammer and Linda Funk; brothers, Paul Lesher, Ronald Lesher and Richard Lesher; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. He is also survived by sisters-in-law, Teresa Gross and Janet Durbin; and a niece, Terri King, who greatly helped with advice and prayers throughout his illness.

There are many close friends we have made over the years whose kindness and friendship were very much appreciated.

Charles had chosen to be cremated. However, a viewing and a memorial service will be held Tuesday, Dec. 2, 2008, at 10 a.m. at Donald Edwin Thompson Funeral Home Inc., 13607 National Pike, Clear Spring. The Rev. Steve Wagoner and the Rev. William Crowe will officiate.

Donations may be made in his memory to any animal shelter or to the SPCA.
