GREENCASTLE, Pa. - James Edward Collins, 73, of 1226 Webling Circle, and a resident of ManorCare Health Services of Chambersburg, Pa., died Friday, Nov. 28, 2008, at Chambersburg Hospital.

Born Feb. 16, 1935, in Alverton, Pa., he was the son of the late George W. and Lottie Mae Miller Collins.

He retired from the U.S. Air Force with the rank of senior master sergeant, serving from 1953 to 1979. He was a veteran of the Vietnam War, having received the Vietnam Service Medal with three bronze service stars and the Air Force Longevity Service Award with five oak clusters.


He was a member of Church Of God in Alverton.

He was a member of the Air Force Association and AARP.

He is survived by his wife, Ingrid A. Schwenn Collins, whom he married Jan. 12, 1957; one son, David K. Collins of Harwood, Md.; two brothers, William B. Collins of Alverton and Thomas K. Collins of Summerville, S.C.; one grandson; several nieces and nephews; and cousins.

Services will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Harold M. Zimmerman and Son Funeral Home, Greencastle. The Rev. William W. DeHass will officiate. Burial will be in Cedar Hill Cemetery, Greencastle.

The family will receive friends one hour before the service Wednesday at the funeral home.
