MEN'S BASKETBALL



Amaurys Fermin had 25 points, six assists and three steals, and Hagerstown Community College rallied from nine points down with 4:30 left to stun Harcum 94-88 in the first round of the Jim Brown Classic at the HCC athletic complex.

Raasan Young had 18 points, K'yan Andrews had 15 points and nine rebounds and Jeremy Myers had 15 points and five assists for the Hawks (6-1). Will Taylor had 10 points and 10 rebounds and Isaiah Hill added 10 points, seven rebounds and three blocks.

Andrew Young had 18 points and Antonio Bumpus added 16 for Harcum (7-2).

Allegany defeated Chesapeake 72-63 in the other first-round game. HCC will face Allegany today at 3 p.m. in the championship game, while Chesapeake will play Harcum in the consolation game at 1.

WOMEN'S BASKETBALL



Charleston 77, Shepherd 65

SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. -- Veronica Carman scored a game-high 21 points to lead Charleston to a WVIAC win over Shepherd.

All five starters scored in double figures for Charleston (3-2, 1-1).

Katie Warehime had 18 points and Colleen Shumaker had 11 points and nine rebounds for the Rams (2-4, 0-2).

Foot Locker regional races

BRONX, N.Y. -- Williamsport seniors Michael Lilley and Naseem Haje competed in the boys seeded race at the Foot Locker Northeast Championships.

Lilley placed 77th on the challenging 3.1-mile course at Van Cortlandt Park in 16:51.1, while Haje was 108th in 17:04.9. Mercersburg Academy junior Ellis Mays was 173rd in 18:11.2.

In the sophomore girls race, Mercersburg's Mackenzie Riford was 28th in 21:11.6 and Smithsburg's Erica Wisz was 95th in 31:35.3.

In the Foot Locker South Regional Championships in Charlotte, N.C., Jefferson senior Cory Hampshire finished 34th in the boys seeded race in 15:44. Berkeley Springs' Lenny Roach placed seventh in the boys senior race in 16:10.
