Violet Agnes Shipley, 81, of Hagerstown, went safely into the arms of Jesus on Monday, Nov. 24, 2008, at the Western Maryland Hospital Center in Hagerstown.

Born on Jan. 3, 1927, in Hagerstown, she was the daughter of the late Ernest D. and Agnes P. (Mongan) Lizer. Her husband, William G. Shipley, preceded her in death on Dec. 4, 1985.

Violet was a member of Calvary Temple in Williamsport and was a homemaker for the past 40 years. She was a wonderful mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.

She is survived by four daughters, Janine Clipp, Janice Stouffer, Joanne Ebersole and husband Elmer of Hagerstown, Joyce Gearheart and husband Karl of Greencastle, Pa.; nine grandchildren, Tracie Grim, Kristi Miller, Nathan Ebersole, Daryl Pope, Randy Ryder, Aaron Pope, Jeremy Ryder, Dustin Gearheart, Lindsay Davis; seven great-grandsons; two great-granddaughters; a niece and a nephew.

In addition to her parents and husband, she also was preceded in death by four sisters, Goldie Thompson, Edna Randall, Kathleen Lizer, Dorthea Lizer and two brothers, Wilbert Lizer and Ernest D. Lizer, Jr.

Funeral services will be conducted at Rest Haven Funeral Chapel, 1601 Pennsylvania Ave., Hagerstown, at 11 a.m. on Monday, Dec. 1, 2008, with the Pastor Bobby Robinson officiating. Interment will follow in Greenlawn Cemetery in Williamsport.

Friends will be received on Sunday from 6 to 8 p.m. in the funeral home.
