CHARLES TOWN, W.Va. - David Franklin Brackett Sr., 79, of Charles Town, died Tuesday, Nov. 25, 2008, at his home.

Born Jan. 16, 1929, in Millville, W.Va., he was the son of the late Henry Fenton Brackett and Nellie Cilmon Erwin Brackett.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Willadine E. Viands Brackett.

He retired from the Halltown Paperboard Co. as a powerhouse engineer.

He was a Methodist.

He was a member and past master of Logan Lodge 25 AF & AM of Harpers Ferry, W.Va., Bethesda Chapter 16 Royal Arch Masons of Middleway, W.Va., Potomac Commandery No. 5 Knights Templar of Charles Town and a 32nd Degree Scottish Rite Mason with the Valley of Martinsburg Orient of West Virginia.

He is survived by two daughters, Doris Loudan of Charles Town and Rebecca J. Davis of Summit Point, W.Va.; two sons, David F. Brackett Jr. of Shepherdstown, W.Va., and James L. Brackett of Kearneysville, W.Va.; one sister, Ruby Longerbeam of Charles Town; one brother, Douglas C. Brackett of Frostproof, Fla., nine grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.


He was preceded in death by two sisters, Carra Mae Thompson and Betty Longerbeam; and three brothers, Thomas F. Brackett, Henry F. Brackett Jr. and John C. Brackett.

Services will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Eackles-Spencer and Norton Funeral Home in Harpers Ferry. The Rev. Douglas Fraim will officiate. Burial will be in Fairview Lutheran Cemetery in Bolivar, W.Va., with Masonic graveside services by Logan Lodge 25 AF & AM.

The family will receive friends Friday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
