Lipella competes in public speaking event

November 27, 2008

Adam Lipella of the Clear Spring FFA Chapter was one of 49 state winners who participated in the 2008 National FFA Extemporaneous Public Speaking Career Development Event. The competition was held Oct. 22-25, during the National FFA Convention.

Adam finished as one of the top 16 students in the event, and received a silver medal.

His FFA advisers are Susan Lowery and Terrie Shank.

The Extemporaneous Public Speaking CDE is designed to recognize outstanding FFA members for their ability to prepare and present a factual speech on a specific agricultural issue. Members select one topic from a choice of categories, prepare a four-to-six minute speech in 30 minutes and respond to five minutes of questions following delivery.

Leslie Hendrickson, agricultural marketing specialist for Washington County, was a judge for this national event.

The National FFA Extemporaneous Public Speaking CDE is sponsored by American Farm Bureau Federation as a special project of the National FFA Foundation.
