Area Roundup -- Hedgesville to host nationally ranked DeMatha in scrimmage

The Hedesville (W.Va.) Eagles will host national power DeMatha Catholic in a scrimmage game Saturday at 4 p.m.

The scrimmage, which is open to the public, will follow Hedgesville's alumni game at 2 p.m.

DeMatha, ranked 13th in the country by ESPN, features several NCAA Divison I recruits. They include: Josh Selby, the No. 2 point guard in the country according to; Naji Hibbert, the brother of former Georgetown star Roy Hibbert; and Jerian Grant, the son of former Chicago Bulls star Horace Grant.

Hedgesville went 20-3 last year and was the top-ranked West Virginia Class AAA team for much of the season.


Hagerstown Junior League set to begin 61st season

The Hagerstown Junior Basketball League will begin its 61st season on Tuesday.

The Junior Divison games for seventh- and eighth-graders will be played at E. Russell Hicks Middle School.

The Elementary Division games for fourth-, fifth- and sixth-graders will be played at Western Heights Middle School.
