Icy roads lead to numerous wrecks

November 25, 2008

TRI-STATE -- Unexpected ice in the valley caused nine or 10 vehicle accidents Tuesday morning, a Berkeley County, W.Va., emergency services dispatcher said.

The accidents started happening just after 7 a.m., she said. Several people were taken to area hospitals.

Many of the accidents were reported in the areas of Apple Harvest Drive and Back Creek Valley Road, she said.

By 8:45 a.m., the sun was up and helping to melt the ice, she said.

Black ice in Franklin County, Pa. also caused some fender-benders, a Franklin County Emergency Services dispatcher said.
