FAIRPLAY -- A clothing drive for a family of seven burned out of their Fairplay home Friday night was successful. Now, monetary contributions are being sought.
Melvin and Teresa Gossard and their five children weren't home when a chimney fire ignited an interior wall and destroyed their mobile home at 16867 Taylors Landing Road, according to a press release from the Maryland State Fire Marshal's office.
A spokesman for Fountain Rock Elementary School's PTA said no more clothing donations are needed.
"Gift cards are still being accepted," Jeb Eckstine said.
A "Melvin Gossard trust fund" has been set up at M&T Banks, where contributions may be made for the family.
A passer-by spotted the fire, which was reported at 9:12 p.m. Friday. There were no smoke alarms in the home, fire officials said Saturday.
The Gossards have been staying with family members since the fire.
