COLLEGE STATION, Texas - Dennis C. Shelly, 53, of College Station, and formerly of St. Thomas, Pa., died on Friday, Nov. 21, 2008, in College Station as a result of a motor vehicle accident.

Born Feb. 16, 1955, in Chambersburg, Pa., he was a son of Harry C. and Joan L. Armstrong Shelly of Coatesville, Pa.

He was a 1973 graduate of James Buchanan High School and earned bachelor's, master's and doctoral degrees while studying at Huntington College in Huntington, Ind., Texas A&M in College Station, Texas, and Indiana University in Bloomington, Ind.


He worked for Eli Lilly and Co. and the Stevens Institute of Technology in Hoboken, N.J.

He was of the Protestant faith.

He served as the president of the Leather Research Institute at Texas Tech and past president of the American Leather Chemical Association.

He is survived by two sons, Ian M. Shelly of Columbia, Mo., and Lt. Graham P. Shelly of Lacey, Wash.; and one sister, Cindy Vander Werff of West Chester, Pa.

Services will be Friday at 2:30 p.m. at Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home in Chambersburg. The Rev. Paul B. Baker will officiate. Burial will follow at St. Thomas Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour before the service.
