CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Abner Ausherman Knepper, age 87, passed away Nov. 22, 2008, at Chambersburg Hospital in Chambersburg.

He was born Oct. 15, 1921, in Chambersburg to Adam and Nellie (Ausherman) Knepper.

He was married to Anna Ruth Mellinger on March 11, 1944, in Mount Joy, Pa.

Abner was a member of the New Guilford Brethren in Christ Church and served in various capacities, including trustee, Sunday school teacher, church board member and usher.

He was a dairy farmer in the Duffield area for 30 years. He also worked at Manor Care Nursing Home and Plasterer's Greenhouse, and volunteered at Camp Joy-El, Menno Haven Village and Penn Hall. Abner served on the Board of Roxbury Camp for 22 years and was an active member of the Gideons.


In addition to his wife, Anna Ruth, Abner is survived by his four children, Donna Faye, married to David Spoonhour of Chambersburg, Joyce Elaine, married to Robert Fry, missionaries in Portugal, Dennis Richard, married to Linda Hostetler of Williamsport, and Cynthia Ann, married to David Williamson of Marion, Pa. He is also survived by one brother, Joseph of Lancaster, Pa.; one sister, Miriam Stern of Philadelphia, Pa.; 11 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.

Abner was preceded in death by his parents; five brothers, Robert, Paul, Charles, John and Lewis; and one sister, Ruth Hess.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 26, 2008, at the New Guilford Brethren in Christ Church, 1575 Mont Alto Road, Chambersburg. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 25, 2008, at Kelso-Cornelius Funeral Home Ltd., 725 Norland Avenue, Chambersburg, and one hour prior to the service on Wednesday. Interment will be held at the New Guilford Cemetery.
