The Tyssenses

Nicky and Mary Ellen Tyssens of Hagerstown celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary on Sept. 21, 2008, at Gibbles Banquet Hall near Greencastle, Pa. The party was hosted by their son and daughter-in-law, with family and friends.

Mr. and Mrs. Tyssens were married on Sept. 22, 1948, in the parsonage of St. Paul's Methodist Church by the Rev. Norman L. Trott.

Mr. Tyssens was a sergeant major in the Royal Netherlands Marine Corps and served three years in Indonesia. He returned to the United States. Later, Mr. Tyssens worked as a salesman for a wholesale grocery company. He also worked for Certainteed Corp., retiring in 1988.

Mrs. Tyssens worked for 26 years for Londontown Manufacturing.

Mr. Tyssens is the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Laurentius and Anna Tyssens Hendricks.

Mrs. Tyssens is the daughter of the late Elwood and Ella Mae Shives.

The Tyssenses have two sons, Larry Roger, who is deceased; and Nicky Leon Tyssens; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.


The Sewards

Robert "Bob" and Mary Seward of Hagerstown celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on Sunday, Oct. 12, 2008, at Maplegrove Estates Community Center. The event was hosted by their three children and their spouses. More than 60 of the couple's family members and friends attended the event, including their six grandchildren.

They were married at St Mary's Catholic Church in Hagerstown on Oct. 19, 1958, by Pastor Robert Passarelli.

Mr. Seward is the son of the late Clarence and Nellie Seward.

Mrs. Seward is the daughter of the late Albert and Leona Burger.

The Sewards met while working at McCroy's in Hagerstown. Mr. Seward retired from Sears, Roebuck and Co. and works part time at Advance Auto Parts. Mrs. Seward is also retired and works part time at Old Forge Elementary School.
