November 22, 2008

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. -- Police are looking for a 29-year-old man believed to be connected to the Wednesday night shooting of a 21-year-old man in the area of Lindsey Terrace Apartments east of Martinsburg.

An arrest warrant was issued by Berkeley County Magistrate Sandra L. Miller for Nelson David Rodriguez, aka Pill, charging him with attempted murder and malicious wounding, according to magistrate court records.

West Virginia State Police said Friday that Matthew Himmelright was being treated at Winchester (Va.) Medical Center for a gunshot wound to the lower torso and that he was in "stable but critical condition."

Himmelright was shot with a 9 mm handgun, police said.

Rodriguez was residing in Building 22, Apartment 2, of the residential complex off Advantage Drive before the shooting, which was reported Wednesday about 7:30 p.m., police said.

Since then, police found the victim's car and said it was soaked with blood.

A person who reported the gunfire Wednesday night told an investigating state police trooper that after the shot was fired, they heard someone yelling and the sound of a car quickly driving away, police said.
