Edward Leon "Bud" Carr, 88, of 18922 Manchester Drive in Hagerstown, Md., passed away Wednesday, Nov. 19, 2008, at Washington County Hospital in Hagerstown.

Born Tuesday, Oct. 5, 1920, in Martinsburg, W.Va., he was the son of the late James Bland Carr and Verna Virginia Maugans Carr.

He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Army.

He was employed and later became president of Hagerstown Lumber Co., retiring after 50 years of service.

He was a member of St. Matthews United Methodist Church and also attended Christ Reformed Church.

He was a member and past president of the Hagerstown Rotary Club for 60 years. He served as a past director of the Maryland National Bank and Brethren Mutual Insurance. He also was a member of Morris Frock American Legion Post 42 and many other civic organizations.

He is survived by his wife, Helen Jane Carr; five daughters, Donna Carr of Baltimore, Md., Kimberly Lushbaugh of Hagerstown, Cathy McLean of Hagerstown, Shellie Ralston of Hagerstown and Julie Knepper of Hagerstown; two sons, Denny Carr of Hagerstown and Eddie Carr of Clayton, Ga.; one sister, June Hawbaker of Lemasters, Pa.; eight grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by three brothers and two sisters.

Services will be Tuesday, Nov. 25, 2008, at 10 a.m. at Douglas A. Fiery Funeral Home, 1331 Eastern Blvd. North, Hagerstown, with the Rev. Don Stevenson officiating.

Interment will be in Rest Haven Cemetery, Hagerstown.

The family will receive friends Monday, Nov. 24, from 5 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
