November 21, 2008

Youth activities and scholarships will benefit from a wine tasting festival Sunday from 1 to 4 p.m. at Always Ron's, 29 N. Burhans Blvd.

The event is sponsored by the North Hagerstown Lions Club.

Participants will taste a selection of wines while appetizers are served tothose seeking to purchase holiday wines with a selection available for every budget.

Kim Martin, chairperson, emphasized it's a great way to learn a little about wines and to discover some new wines. "But mostly it's about having a good time," Martin said.

Part of the afternoon's activities will include tip jars and a raffle of a $150 basket of wine. There is no admission charge.

The club also is conducting its annual Coats For Kids program from now until New Year's. Collection points are open at Valley Mall and at Richards World of Travel on Potomac Avenue.

The club collects new and used coats in clean, good condition to help needy children. The coats are turned over to Children In Need Inc. and The Parent-Child Center, and others in need.

Anyone having coats to donate may bring them to the wine tasting Sunday.
