MAUGANSVILLE - Eugene Mark Fierer, 80, of Maugansville, Md., and formerly of Aventura, Fla., passed away Monday, Nov. 17, 2008, at his home in Maugansville.

Born Saturday, March 31, 1928, in Brooklyn, N.Y., he was the son of the late Nathan Fierer and Esther Boym Fierer.

His wife, Diane Paris Fierer, preceded him in death after 55 years of marriage.

He was a co-founder of the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation at the University of Miami. He also was a clinical professor at the University of Miami. Recently, he taught at Shenandoah University and West Virginia University.

He is survived by one daughter, Laury Russo of Asheville, N.C.; one son, Jonathan Fierer and wife, Abigail, of Williamsport, Md.; and five grandchildren, Darrin Lowell, and Eli, Jacob, Daniel and Elena Fierer.

He was preceded in death by one sister, Doris Perlman.

Services will be Wednesday, Nov. 19, 2008, at 5:30 p.m. at Douglas A. Fiery Funeral Home, 1331 Eastern Blvd. North, Hagerstown, Md., with Pastor Randy Mosher officiating.

The family will receive friends Wednesday, Nov. 19, from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. at the funeral home. Interment will be at the convenience of the family.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Pacific Missionary Aviation, P.O. Box 3209, Hagatna, Guam 96932 in support of the Davis Family.
