Sobriety checkpoint planned in Hagerstown



The Hagerstown Police Department will conduct a sobriety checkpoint at an undisclosed location this weekend, according to a department press release.

The operation is being conducted in conjunction with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and Checkpoint Strikeforce, and is intended to reduce the number of drunken and drugged drivers on Hagerstown's roadways, police said.

Cruelty citation issued to Pa. woman



HUSTONTOWN, Pa. -- A Fulton County woman was cited for cruelty to animals early Wednesday after allegedly leaving her dog to roam her yard without sufficient shelter to protect it from the cold weather, according to a Pennsylvania State Police press release.

Christine Mellott, 44, of Waterfall Road in Dublin Township, Pa., was cited, police said.

The temperature in the Hustontown area at the time of the incident was 21 degrees, police said.

Pa. man cited after crash



MERCERSBURG, Pa. -- A Waynesboro, Pa., man was cited for failure to drive within a single lane Monday after a crash on Pa. 16, according to a Pennsylvania State Police press release.

David A. Adams, 25, was about 600 feet north of Paradise Lane about 9:25 p.m., when his Chevrolet Tracker spun on an icy section of roadway, police said. Adams overcorrected and the SUV began to spin clockwise, police said. The SUV then left the road and overturned, police said.
