Around Funkstown

That holiday feeling

It's beginning to feel a tad like Christmas.

We heard our first Christmas songs on the radio this week and if that doesn't start the holidays off right, then just call yourself Scrooge.

It's time to dig out the holiday movies and begin planning and plotting for the season.

Funkstown's Old Tyme Christmas is not too far off, the beginning of December, and there are still spaces available for the craft sale at the fire hall.

If you want to participate in donations for the evening's festivities or reserve your craft space, don't wait too long.

Townsfolk are reminded that donations of cookies are needed, so you know what to do. Get out those cookbooks and share your favorites with your neighbors.

Baby-sitting seminar

With all the holiday parties ahead, wouldn't it be a comfort to know that the sitter you hire is qualified?

The Washington County Chapter of the American Red Cross at 1131 Conrad Court in Hagerstown is offering a baby-sitting boot camp course from Dec. 29 to 31 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The cost of the three-day course is $100. Space is limited so registration is a must. Financial aid is available.

The purpose of the course is to provide young adults ages 11 to 15 with the information and skills necessary to provide safe and responsible care for children in the absence of their parents or gaurdians.

Participants will learn CPR and first aid along with developing skills in leadership and professionalism and basic care safety and safe play.

The cost of the class includes all the necessary books and other tools. Call 301-739-0717 to register.
