FALLING WATERS, W.Va. - Berkeley L. Thomas, 75, of Falling Waters, died Sunday, Nov. 16, 2008, at his home.

Born Dec. 24, 1932, in Darkesville, W.Va., he was the son of the late Norman E. Thomas and Margaret Lewis Thomas Carper.

He was a member of the Martinsburg High School class of 1950.

He was employed with Peoples Life Insurance Co. in 1956 and was promoted to regional manager in 1982. The Martinsburg office was named after him in 1984. He retired in February 1989.

He was a member of Darkesville United Methodist Church.

He was past president of Inwood-Bunker Hill Lions Club, Masonic member of Triluminar Lodge 117 A.F. & A.M. of Middleway, W.Va., National Life Underwriters Association, past board member of Martinsburg Rescue Mission, and past president and board member of Berkeley County Public Service District.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Jane D. Fridinger Thomas; four daughters, Beverly Taylor Custer and Brenda L. Hutzler, both of Martinsburg, W.Va.; Karen J. Catrow of Inwood, W.Va.; and Karolyn Carter of Frederick; eight grandchildren; one great-grandchild; nieces; and nephews.

He was preceded in death by two sisters, Donna L. Gochenour and Juanita Pitzer.

Services will be Thursday at 2 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home, Martinsburg. The Rev. John R. Yost will officiate. Burial will be in Rosedale Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Wednesday from 3 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
