BLUFF CITY, Tenn. - James Paul "Jim" Kraiss, 57, of Bluff City and formerly of Chambersburg, Pa., died Thursday, Nov. 13, 2008, at Wellmont Hospice in Bristol, Tenn.

Born April 25, 1951, in Chambersburg, he was the son of the late Paul James and Doris C. Hare Kraiss.

He was a 1969 graduate of Council Rock High School in Newtown, Pa.

He was a truck driver, employed, most recently, by Team Penske.

He served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War. He was awarded the Navy Achievement Medal and a Presidential Unit Citation.

He was a member of the Veterans of the Vietnam War Post 41, Charles Nitterhouse VFW Post 1599 and Hume-McNeil-Byers AMVETS Post 224, all of Chambersburg, he also was a member of Burt J. Asper American Legion Post 46 of Chambersburg and St. John's Lodge 260 F&AM of Carlisle, Pa.

He is survived by his wife, Sherry Altvater Kraiss, whom he married Aug. 22, 2007; one son, Paul J. Kraiss of Chambersburg; two sisters, Sharon L. Doolittle of Millersville, Pa., and Jennifer B. Sterling of Wagoner, Okla.; one brother, Stephen H. Kraiss of Wycombe, Pa.; one niece; and two nephews.

He was preceded in death by one half brother, Fred Kraiss.

Services will be Tuesday at 1 p.m. at Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home in Chambersburg. The Rev. Paul B. Baker will officiate. Burial will follow in Lincoln Cemetery with military honors by the Honor Guard of Charles Nitterhouse VFW Post 1599.

The family will receive friends Monday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Tuesday from noon to 1 p.m. at the funeral home.
