CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Dale L. Brindle, 80, of 44 Glen St., died Thursday, Nov. 13, 2008, at Reston (Va.) Hospital Center.

Born Nov. 21, 1927, in Belvidere, Neb., he was the son of the late Earl S. and Nellie G. Sanford Brindle.

He was a 1949 graduate of the former Shippensburg (Pa.) State Teacher's College.

He taught science in Hagerstown.

He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.

He was appointed chief clerk to the Franklin County (Pa.) Commissioners.

He was a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church, where he was a member of the Hoover Bible Class.

A 32nd Degree Mason, he was a member and past master of George Washington Lodge 143 F&AM of Chambersburg, a member and past president of the Waynesboro (Pa.) Shrine Club, a member of the Charles Nitterhouse VFW Post 1599, Burt J. Asper American Legion Post 46 and Hume-McNeil-Byers AMVETS Post 224, all of Chambersburg, among others.


He was a volunteer with Meals on Wheels.

He is survived by his wife, Joyce Byers Brindle; one daughter, Patricia Worthington of Shippensburg; one son, D. Steven Brindle of Chambersburg; one sister, Stella Mears of Shippensburg; one brother, Edgar E. Brindle of Shippensburg; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

A private memorial service will be held.

There will be no viewing. Burial will be private.

The family requests the omission of flowers.
