Kearneysville man charged in convenience store robbery

November 14, 2008

CHARLES TOWN, W.Va. -- A Kearneysville, W.Va., man has been charged in connection with a robbery Wednesday afternoon at the Seven Seas convenience store, a Jefferson County Sheriff's Department spokesman said.

William Edwin Rodgers Jr., 18, of 306 Chase Drive, was charged with armed robbery, according to Jefferson County Magistrate Court records.

Sgt. Ron Fletcher said he responded to the store along W.Va. 9 about 5:27 p.m. after being notified that a man had just robbed the store.

A cashier said the man appeared to have a weapon in his pocket and was pointing it at her, Fletcher said in a report.

The cashier said the man reached over the counter, grabbed money out of a cash register and fled from the store toward the Fox Glen subdivision, Fletcher said.

Fletcher said he later caught up to Rodgers at 306 Chase Drive.

Rodgers gave a written confession and stated that he obtained $40, but said he did not have a weapon, Fletcher said.

Rodgers is free on $250,000 bond.
