Artist to speak at society meeting

Artist Temahoa Love will speak at the Keedysville Historical Society meeting Monday at 7 p.m. Members and guests are welcome to attend. Don't forget it is time to renew society memberships. Soup sale planned Saturday at fire company

Potomac Valley Fire Co. in Dargan will hold a soup sale Saturday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. or until soup runs out. Soup costs $5.50 a quart for chicken noodle, chicken corn, beef vegetable and bean soup. Bring your own container and save $1. Virginia baked ham sandwiches will be sold for $2. Steamers and hot dogs will be available. PVFC is also selling 12 days of Christmas gun raffle tickets. For more information, call 301-432-2130.


Historical Society to meet

The Sharpsburg Historical Society will meet Monday at 7 p.m. in one of Sharpsburg's historic homes on Main Street. The meeting is the first of the season and will be a social for new, old, and prospective members of the society as it celebrates Sharpsburg's nomination to historic district status.

O'Connell to speak at Sharpsburg library

The Sharpsburg Public Library will present a program, "How a Picture Book Is Created" Thursday, Nov. 20, at 3:30 p.m. at the library at 106 E. Main St., Sharpsburg. Jennifer O'Connell, author and illustrator, will use the book, "A Garden of Whales," to show how a picture book is made. She will show a progression of sketches, dummy books, and final illustrations. Jennifer will create a pastel drawing of three different whales for the library. For more information, call 301-432-8825.

Ensemble to perform world premiere Nov. 22

The Antietam Women's Ensemble will present a concert titled "Music for a New Space" Saturday, Nov. 22, at 8 p.m. at St. Agnes Catholic Church, 216 S. Duke St., in Shepherdstown, W.Va. The ensemble will present choral music including the world premiere of "Variations on a Hymnsong" by Kipyn Martin. The ensemble will also perform Gregorian chants, Buddhist chants and African drum rhythms.

Homeschool Association to hold dinner Nov. 19

The Western Maryland Homeschool Association will hold a potluck dinner Wednesday, Nov. 19, at 5 p.m. at 7864 Fairplay Road, Fairplay.

The adults will have a book club discussion while the students make crafts or color. Teens can play guitars, computers, games or just socialize. Go to for more information.

UCC to hold soup, bake sale

Trinity United Church of Christ, 33 Potomac St., Boonsboro, will hold an indoor soup, sandwich and bake sale Saturday, Nov. 22, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Homemade cherry, apple, peach and lemon meringue pies; homemade chicken corn, vegetable, country ham and bean and chili soups; country ham, chicken salad and steamer sandwiches; homemade apple dumplings, cream puffs, cakes, cookies and candies will be available. Eat in or carry out.

Jackie Willison to speak at senior site

Jackie Willison will speak on "Depression and Exercise" Monday, Nov. 17, at the senior site in Keedysville at the Little Antietam Community Center, 40 Mount Vernon Drive.
