BERKELEY SPRINGS, W.Va. -- Authorities this morning were on the scene of a traffic accident on southbound U.S. 522 south of Berkeley Springs, W.Va.

An emergency services dispatcher in Morgan County said the wreck involved a tractor-trailer rig and a passenger vehicle.

"One person was flown out by helicopter," said Donald Perry at 10:23 a.m. from his vantage point at the Southern Belle Truck Stop near the accident site.

Perry, who said he was helping out at the truck stop this morning, said the tractor-trailer was still on its wheels but was across all lanes of the highway. Traffic was blocked in both directions, he said.

"There's a big wrecker out there now," Perry said at 10:25 a.m.

It was believed the truck was southbound and the passenger vehicle was northbound on U.S. 522 when the accident occurred, Perry said.

A spokeswoman at the West Virginia State Police barrack in Berkeley Springs said troopers were on the scene as were representatives of the Morgan County Sheriff's Department.

The accident was in the 3000 block of U.S. 522, she said.
