Around Funkstown

Great game

Were you there? This past Friday night ... do I need to say where?

School Stadium at South Hagerstown High School was the place to be and the North-South game was the game and what a game.

The stadium was packed and green and red were the dominant colors. It was almost as if Christmas had come early with the colors, although I am sure that the South High Rebels were not pleased with the final score. I cannot stress enough how proud I was of both teams. The score volleyed back and forth ... touchdowns being answered with more touchdowns and field goals keeping things tight.

Yes, in the end, the final score is what is written down, but what will be remembered is the most fabulous display of sportsmanship. Hubs helping Rebels up and Rebels returning the favor. The character and tenacity, the gritty effort by the players who suited up that night is what I will remember ... hopefully, years from now the final score is not what people will remember, but instead the sportsmanship and real meaning of high school sports ... besides there's always next year.
