HCC offers seminar on pediatric orthopaedics



Hagerstown Community College's Center for Continuing Education will offer a seminar for radiographers, "Pediatric Orthopaedics: How Far We Have Come in the Last 50 Years," from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 11, at Robinwood Medical Center, east of Hagerstown.

Discussion topics include advances that have been made in orthopaedics as well as how spinal deformities and joint replacement are diagnosed and treated and the role that imaging plays in those diagnoses.

Dr. J. Michael Wattenbarger will host the seminar. Wattenbarger is a pediatric orthopaedic surgeon at the Ortho/Carolina/Miller Orthopaedic Clinic in Charlotte, N.C., and is also the subspecialty chief at the Department of Pediatric Orthopaedic Surgery at the Carolinas Medical Center.

The seminar costs $12, which includes continuing education credit for radiographers, handouts and refreshments.

World Diabetes Day seminar offered



Washington County Hospital will host a town hall meeting to Find the Power to Control Diabetes to recognized World Diabetes Day. The program is from 8 a.m.to 2 p.m. Dimensions Dining & Catering, 132 Old National Pike, Funkstown. Cost is $25 for the event.

The event will discuss the rise of diabetes, what can keep a person from controlling his or her diabetes, ways to manage diabetes and the development of self-management skills.

Guests are encouraged to wear something blue to the event to support World Diabetes Day.

Learn to live with diabetes seminar set



Families Plus and Fort Detrick's Exceptional Family Member Program will present a lunch and learn, "Living a Healthy Life with Diabetes," from noon to 1 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 13, at the NCI Conference Center at Fort Detrick. Topics include lifestyle changes and treatment options. Bring a brown bag lunch; the cafeteria will be closed.

Workshops teach how to deal with grief



Hospice of Washington County will offer two workshops to help people who recently lost a loved ones, cope with the holidays.

"Coping with Grief at the Holidays" workshops will be held from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 18, and 10 to 11:30 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 6, at Hospice of Washington County in Hagerstown. The workshops are free.
