FREDERICK, Md. - Deer Crossing Elementary, Thurmont Middle and Brunswick High schools received 2007-08 School of the Year awards from the Maryland Center for Character Education.
The Frederick County public schools are among 38 Maryland schools recognized for outstanding character-education initiatives.
For more than a decade, the school system has incorporated the Character Counts! character-education program and ethical decision-making model into the curriculum at all grade levels.
The program promotes six "pillars of character" - caring, citizenship, fairness, respect, responsibility and trustworthiness.
