Antietam Meadow Park tree program in progress

November 07, 2008

Washington Township and the Antietam Watershed Association (AWA) are working together to renew, repair and develop Antietam Meadow Park, a 25-acre park west of North Welty Road along the East Branch of Antietam Creek in Washington Township near Waynesboro, Pa.

One way of accomplishing this goal is to plant trees native to our area. Washington Township Supervisors, assisted by the AWA, are accepting donations of native trees or money for the purchase of native trees. Call 717-762-3128 to make donations.

Another way you can assist is by volunteering Saturday, Nov. 8, beginning at 9:30 a.m., to help the AWA and Saint Andrew Catholic Elementary School sixth-grade students plant trees and bushes along the repaired areas of Antietam Creek in Antietam Meadow Park. Everyone who is interested in helping is welcome.

If you can, please bring shovels, wheelbarrows, work gloves and wading boots. Also, please bring old socks you are willing to part with.
