Blood drive

The Maugansville Ruritan Club will host its final Red Cross blood drive of the year on Monday from 2 to 7 p.m. in the community center.

During the previous five drives this year, donors have given more than 250 units of blood. As always, the Ruritan will provide refreshments and a warm seat.

Canned food drive

The Salem Reformed Church Youth Group will hold a canned food drive Saturday from 2:30 to 5 p.m. in the Maugansville area. The youth will donate all of the items they collect to St. Mark's Food Bank in Hagerstown.

Way to go, Mike

Do you ever wonder why the streets around Maugansville don't have a lot of trash? Well, it's thanks to people like Mike Weaver, a local man who walks 5 miles daily. Mike gathers up trash while he is walking. If you see Mike, stop and thank him for helping keep our area trash free. Way to go, Mike.

Cards for troops

Susquehanna Bank in Washington County has agreed to team up with the PTA at South Hagerstown High School for a program of Christmas cards for the troops. They will be collecting Christmas cards until Friday, Dec. 12, at all of the Susquehanna branches and the main office. The cards will then be sent to the troops in Iraq. A goal of 10,000 cards has been set by the PTA so lots of help is needed.
