Vorgetts to speak on Afghan women

Having recently returned from a visit to Afghanistan, Fahima Vorgetts will talk about today's Afghan women and will display some of their handicrafts Wednesday, Nov. 12, at 7 p.m. at the Sharpsburg library at 106 E. Main St. For more information, call 301-432-8825.

Bazaar planned

The Sharpsburg Church of the Brethren, at 123 E. Main St., will hold a Christmas Bazaar Saturday, starting at 9 a.m. Homemade soups, country ham sandwiches, baked goods, crafts and yard sale items will be sold. For more information, call 301-432-4994.

Spaghetti dinner set

Christ Reformed UCC, 117 W. Main St., Sharpsburg, will hold an all-you-can-eat spaghetti dinner Saturday from 4 to 7 p.m. to benefit the Sunday school program. Adults eat-in, $7; adults carry-out, $5; children younger than 8, free.

Oyster supper

The Rohrersville Ruritan Club will hold an oyster, ham and turkey supper Saturday, Nov. 15, from 1:30 to 5:30 p.m. at the Ruritan School in Rohrersville. Bring containers for carry-outs. The supper will cost $14 for adults (tax included) and $7 for children 6 to 12 (tax included). Children younger than 6 will be admitted free. Potpie dinner

District 12 Ruritan will hold a chicken and ham slippery potpie dinner Saturday from noon to 5 p.m., or while supply lasts. The club is at the Tilghmanton Woods Community Park on Manor Church Road. Tickets cost $6 for all you can eat. Carry-out will be available.

NxLevel to hold training class

A NxLevel Training class for entrepreneur farmers called "Tilling the Soil of Opportunity" will be held at the Agricultural Education Center on Sharpsburg Pike today from 5 to 7:30 p.m. The class will be held Tuesday, Dec. 9 and Jan. 6, 13, 20 and 27 from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Call Leslie Hendrickson at 301-791-1504, ext. 21, or 301-573-7039 (cell).

Museum to hold garden book sale

The Rural Heritage Museum, at 7313 Sharpsburg Pike, will hold a three-day garden book sale Friday, Nov. 14, from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturday, Nov. 15, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Remaining books will be sold as a bag sale on Sunday, Nov. 16, from 1 to 4 p.m. A few cookbooks will be sold Sunday. Profits from the sale will be used for the gardens around the Farmstead and Heritage Village at the museum.

Antietam Unit to host Veterans Day ceremony

American Legion Auxiliary, Antietam Unit 236, will host the annual Veterans Day Ceremony Tuesday at 11 a.m. at the Sharpsburg Square War Memorials.

The program will feature the 167th Airlift Wing Base Honor Guard from the West Virginia Air National Guard, Martinsburg, along with the Boonsboro High School chorus, Park Ranger Keith Snyder of the Antietam National Battlefield and keynote speaker the Rev. Mark Michael.

Holiday Studio Tour features local artisans

The Valley Craft Network will feature local artisans at a Holiday Studio Tour Nov. 22 and 23 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Local artisans participating in the tour are Allison Coles Severance (Coles Pottery, 18839 Manor Church Road, Boonsboro), Judith R. Williamson (JRW Creations, 6924 Girl Scout Road, Boonsboro), Debbie Dickinson (Deborah Dickinson Pottery, 60 S. Main St., Keedysville), Kirke Martin (M4 Studios. 4803 Mt. Briar Rd., Keedysville), Keith Phillips (The Studios at Stony Acres, 1608 Reed Road, Knoxville) and Bill van Gilder (Van Gilder Pottery, 20834 Townsend Road, Gapland).

Little League to sponsor basket bingo

The South Mountain Little League will sponsor a basket bingo Sunday, Nov. 16, at the Boonsboro Fire Hall. Doors open at noon. Bingo starts at 1:30 p.m. Tickets cost $20 for 25 games including five specials. Receive an extra pack of specials for prepayment. All Bingo baskets will be combos and filled. King Tutts, tip jars. Raffles, door and loser prizes will be available.
