The five free things to do this weekend

November 06, 2008

Here comes Santa Claus

Santa arrives at the Valley Mall at 10 a.m. Saturday after Raggedy Ann and Andy do a little singing and dancing. Then kids get to climb up on Santa's lap and share their greatest desires -- peace on earth? No. Guitar Hero!

Music by the military

Continue your feelings of patriotism and listen to The U.S. Air Force Heritage of America Band Brass Quintet from Langley Air Force Base, Va., at 7 p.m. on Veterans Day, Tuesday, Nov. 11, at Trinity Lutheran Church, 15 Randolph Ave., Hagerstown.

Think green

Free movies! The American Conservation Film Festival near Shepherdstown, W.Va., includes several free movies, including a children's film about zoo veterinarians and a zoo vet talk featuring a live reptile and bird show on Saturday. The festival continues today and runs through Sunday.

They're back ...

It's sweeps month, so look for TV specials and series premieres. "Law & Order" returned earlier than expected, starting its 19th season last night on NBC. "Top Chef" premieres its new season next Wednesday, Nov. 12, at 10 p.m. on Bravo.

More St. Nick

Fairy tale characters and Santa Claus -- not to be confused with one another -- are featured in the Washington County Museum of Fine Art's Fantasy Figures exhibit, which opens Saturday. Sharpsburg resident Terry Stone's sculptures are on display.
