The Kelleys

Bill and Mary Alice Kelley of Clear Spring were honored at a surprise 50th wedding anniversary party at the Clear Spring American Legion on May 18, 2008.

The celebration was hosted by son Brad Kelley and his wife MaDonna. Also assisting with the celebration were the Kelley's grandchildren.

Mrs. Kelley is the former Mary Alice Hawbaker, daughter of the late Crest and Hazel Hawbaker. She retired from Washington County Board of Education, having worked with the Title 1 program at Greenbrier and Conococheague elementary schools.

Mr. Kelley is the son of the late Charles and Laura Kelley. He retired from the Washington County Board of Education as shop foreman in the transportation department.


Mr. and Mrs. Kelley were married on May 17, 1958, at St. John's Reformed Church in Clear Spring by the Rev. J. Wade Huffman, now deceased.

The Duffeys

David and Barbara Duffey of Fairfield, Pa., celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in July. Their daughter and son-in-law, Pamela and Dennis Duffey-Nairn, hosted a weekend gathering at their home in Lansing, Mich. Also in attendance were Jill Duffey of Hagerstown, and her sons, and Anne and Chuck Jessop of Smithsburg, and their children.

The Duffeys were married on July 18, 1958, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Funkstown.

Mr. Duffey retired from Mack Truck with 30 years of service.

Mrs. Duffey was a homemaker for the first 20 years of their marriage then worked as a receptionist, retiring from the office of Dr. Money in Hagerstown.

They have three children and five grandchildren.

After living in Hagerstown for the first 48 years of their marriage, they moved to Fairfield, Pa., in 2006.

The Bowmans

Herb and Judy Bowman of Hagerstown celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary on Sunday, May 18, 2008, at a surprise party with family and friends at Next Dimensions in Funkstown.

The party was hosted by their two daughters, Dawn Robinson-Lefferts and Gina Zeger; and three grandchildren.

Mr. Bowman is the owner/operator of H.E. Bowman Plumbing & Heating.

Mrs. Bowman is the owner/operator of J.K. Bowman Tax Service.

The Bowmans met while working at Jim's Always in Hagerstown and were married on May 25, 1968.
