Edward Jones

Shelby Penn, a financial adviser with Edward Jones, will host an "Outlook and Opportunities" investment strategies seminar on Tuesday from 11 a.m. to noon and 5 to 6 p.m. at the Edward Jones office at 33 W. Franklin St. in Hagerstown.

Some of the topics to be covered in the seminar include the current economic outlook, the impact that political and social events might have on the financial markets and the importance of maintaining a long-term investment strategy.

The seminar is free, but seating is limited.

Customer appreciation event

Hagerstown Mercedes, All Star Limousine, The Yellow Brick Bank, 3 Onions Restaurant and Christian Caine Jewelers will hold a customer appreciation event Friday at the Hagerstown Mercedes dealership at 1955 Dual Highway in Hagerstown.


All Star Limousine will have its new fleet of limousines on display, The Yellow Brick Bank will offer wine tasting and cuisine sampling, the 3 Onions Restaurant will serve its famous martinis and have some of its food specialties available for tasting, and Christian Caine Jewelers will have a display of its unique custom-designed jewelry.

Barr Construction Institute

The Safety Committee of the Associated Builders & Contractors Inc. Barr Construction Institute hosted its first Safety Conference on Wednesday, Oct. 8.

About 125 people attended the conference, which was at the institute at 530 N. Locust St. Free seminars were offered throughout the morning and were conducted by experts addressing various construction-related issues such as electrical safety, fall protection, scaffolding, trenching and confined space. Seventeen vendors also attended and offered their expertise to potential customers.

Guest speaker was Scott Troutman, survivor of a major trench collapse. His presentation emphasized the aspects of why safety is important.

The event also offered a meal of pit beef sandwiches, potato salad, macaroni salad, chips, pretzels and soda. The meal was sponsored by Emmitsburg Glass Co., R.W. Warner Inc. and Hitt Contracting.

Associated Builders and Contractors

The Cumberland Valley Chapter of Associated Builders and Contractors Inc. (ABC) held its October dinner meeting on Thursday, Oct. 16, at Fountain Head Country Club in Hagerstown.

The speaker was David Denholm, president of the Public Service Research Foundation. He spoke on prevailing wage, what it is and how it affects taxpayers.

Knob Hall Winery

CLEAR SPRING - Knob Hall Winery recently received a Maryland Grape Growers Association grant for $4,800, which helped the winery and vineyard operation plant an additional two acres of grapes.

The winery plans to host weddings and tours. The winery is finalizing the architectural designs for several buildings, including a banquet hall that will be utilized for banquets and receptions.

The winery also has a new Web site - The site was designed by DH Web of Hagerstown.

The Manitowoc Co.

MANITOWOC, Wis. - The board of directors of The Manitowoc Co. recently declared a regular quarterly dividend of 2 cents per share of common stock.

The dividend is payable Dec. 11 to shareholders of record as of Dec. 1.

The Manitowoc Co. is the parent company of Grove Worldwide in Shady Grove, Pa.
