MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - A 2-year-old girl found abandoned in Martinsburg early Tuesday morning was in the custody of the Child Protective Services division of the state Department of Health and Human Resources, DHHR spokesman John Law said Wednesday.
Law confirmed the child was medically "OK." Police said the toddler was left without shoes and a coat along the 300 block of South Water Street about 3 a.m.
Martinsburg Police Department Detective Lt. G.B. Swartwood said Wednesday that the investigation was continuing.
Being in custody of Child Protective Services generally means the girl would be receiving foster care, Law said. A 4-year-old daughter of the woman police said was questioned about the incident Tuesday also was in state custody.
