FREDERICK, Md. (AP) -- The Frederick County Commissioners have decided to ask state lawmakers grant them a raise, which would take effect after the 2010 election.
The request won't be as large as the proposed raise sought by Commissioner David Gray. He suggested the $45,000 annual salary be raised to $75,000, then indexed to the inflation rate in the future.
The commissioners, however, settled on a more modest request. They want their current salary tied either to the inflation rate, or the salary of state lawmakers.
Gray had argued a larger raise was needed to make it possible for people supporting families to run for office.
