Blue Band places sixth

The Williamsport Blue Band placed sixth in last weekend's Tournament of Bands at Cedar Cliff High School in Camp Hill, Pa. Braving the weather and looking sharp in their new uniforms, the band members scored 85.55 out of 100 points. This was their highest score to date.

The next Tournament of Bands will be the chapter championship Saturday at North Hagerstown High School. The WHS band will also marching in the Mummers Parade later that evening. Tickets for the championship can be purchased at the gate or through Band Director Robert Stike, who can be reached at

Trick or treat

Williamsport's trick or treat is Friday from 6 to 8 p.m.

Baby-sitter training

Baby-sitter training will be Monday from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the Washington County Chapter of the American Red Cross, 1131 Conrad Court in Hagerstown. The cost is $55. Register in advance by calling 301-739-0717. Bring a bagged lunch. Financial aid is available.


Pancake breakfast

The Downsville Ruritan will host an all-you-can-eat pancake breakfast Saturday, Nov. 8, from 7 to 11 a.m. at the Downsville Ruritan Community Center, near the Downsville square. Breakfast will include pancakes, Hoffman sausage, pudding, sausage gravy, scrambled eggs, coffee, orange juice and milk.

The cost is $5.50 for adults, $3.50 for ages 6 to 12 and free for those younger than 5. All proceeds will benefit Ruritan community projects.

Christmas bazaar

Calvary Temple's Ladies Auxiliary, 147 S. Conococheague St., will have a Christmas bazaar Saturday, Nov. 8, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. The bazaar will include Christmas decorations, crafts, pies, cakes, fudge, cookies and a silent auction. For more information, call 301-223-7921 or 717-597-5595.

Comedy show

Williamsport Volunteer Fire and EMS will hold a comedy show Saturday, Nov. 8, at the fire hall on Brandy Drive. Tickets cost $45 per couple, which includes dinner, the show and DJ/dance. Doors open at 5 p.m., dinner is at 6:30 p.m. and the comedy show will follow. A cash bar will be available.

Human Development Council fundraiser

A fundraiser for the Washington County Human Development Council is set for Friday, Nov. 14, at The Improved Order of Red Men in Williamsport. Doors open at 6 p.m.; pizza and a salad buffet will be available from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m.; and entertainment will be provided by The Davisson Brothers Band from 8 p.m. to midnight. A cash bar will be available.

Cemetery restoration benefit dinner

A benefit community dinner to help with the restoration of the Riverview Cemetery will be Saturday, Nov. 15, from 3 to 7 p.m. at Williamsport United Methodist Church, 25 E. Church St. The cost is $6 at the door. The menu includes meatloaf, mashed potatoes, gravy, glazed carrots, applesauce, rolls, pumpkin pie and beverages. Take-outs will be available.

TOPS 454

Just as the leaves are falling, so are the unwanted pounds in the TOPS 454 Williamsport support group. The TOPS weight loss for September was a tie between Kay and Thelma. Way to go! Also, the group would like to welcome two new members: Jeanette and Ann.
