Frederick officer's funeral is Wednesday

road closures, traffic delays announced

FREDERICK, Md. -- Maryland State Police advises that several roads and highways in Frederick County will be closed or will experience delays Wednesday afternoon during the funeral procession for Frederick Police Officer Richard Mark Bremer.

Bremer, 39, died Oct. 23 when his cruiser crashed while he was pursuing a driver. His funeral is scheduled for 11 a.m. Wednesday at Holy Family Catholic Church in Middletown, Md.

Following the funeral, there will be a funeral procession/motorcade to Resthaven Memorial Gardens on U.S. 15. State police estimate the procession will begin at 12:30 to 1 p.m.

The following roads will experience significant delays and/or closures, police said:

o Maryland 17 and Alternate U.S. 40

o Interstate 70 eastbound from Alternate U.S. 40 to Exit 54 (Md. 355/Md. 85)

o Ramp from westbound I-70 to Exit 54 (Md. 355/85)

o Ramp from northbound Interstate 270 to eastbound I-70

o Ramp from southbound I-270 to eastbound I-70


o Md. 355/North Market Street to West Patrick Street in Frederick

o West Patrick Street to U.S. 15

o U.S. 15 from West Patrick Street (U.S. 40) to Resthaven Memorial Gardens.

In addition, northbound U.S. 15 from Biggs Ford Road to Devilbliss Bridge Road will be closed to traffic from approximately 2:30 to 3:30 p.m. Wednesday. Traffic will be rerouted from northbound U.S. 15 to eastbound Biggs Ford Road then northbound on Dublin Road to westbound Devilbiss Bridge Road.

State police advise motorists to make alternate plans and reroute travel plans to avoid delays. The public is asked not to call local police departments with questions or to asking for directions on how to reach your destination.
