Maugansville Fire Co. news:

o A basket bingo will be held Sunday. Call 301-797-6770 for tickets.

o The following have been named firefighters of the month: July - Nick Martin; August - Liz Roane. Congratulations to both of these dedicated volunteers.

o Fifty-three calls were responded to in September and the fire company has an average turnout of personnel of 11.4 for the year.

o The fire company would like to thank everyone who supported the fire company's gun raffle Sept. 27. It was a huge success.

o The new fire engine will be placed in service within the next couple of weeks. An open house will be held to celebrate its arrival.

o A new recruit class will start Sunday at 6:30 p.m. and several new members will be trained in firefighting.

o Cool weather is coming quickly. If you burn wood, make sure your fireplace or woodstove and chimney are clean and in good working order. It is especially important that you have a working CO detector in each level of your house.

o The fire company will be starting its annual fund drive soon. Without the community's support, the fire company would not exist.
